Ray Horwood, CEO of NFRC 
Ray Horwood is both the CEO of the National Federation of Roofing Contractors and of CompetentRoofer a government endorsed Competent Person Scheme for Roofing. He is fully involved in all aspects of the industry from setting standards through training provision to political lobbying. Ray's previous career was in the Royal Air Force where he flew in fighter and intelligence gathering aircraft prior to reaching senior rank. He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Tylers and Bricklayers, a fellow of the Royal Aeronational Society and has been decorated both in the UK and abroad.
Neil Pennell, Head of Sustainability & Engineering,  Land Securities 

Neil Pennell is the Head of Sustainability & Engineering for Land Securities PLC, the UK's largest quoted property company. He leads an in-house team of specialist engineers and environmental professionals. He is responsible for the project management of the design, procurement and delivery of building services, vertical transportation systems and utility infrastructure for the Group's major new development projects.
His environmental team operates across the business supporting the development and operations business units for both the Retail and London Portfolio's. Neil is charged with providing strategic support to the PLC Board on sustainability issues and setting stretching environmental targets to ensure Land Securities retains its leadership position in the sector.
Neil is the Chairman of the Technical Affairs Committee of the British Council of Offices and has contributed to a number of the BCO's technical publications including the latest edition of the Best Practice Guide to the Specification of Offices 2009. He is a keen advocate of the application of new energy technologies and energy efficient systems in commercial and residential buildings and is a member of the Mayor's 'Energy For London' working group.

Rudi Klein, Chief Executive, SEC Group
Rudi Klein is Chief Executive of the Specialist Engineering Contractors' (SEC) Group, an umbrella body representing the interests of 60,000 firms in the specialist engineering sector. He is also a barrister specialising in construction law. He is an honorary member of the Society of Construction Law.
Rudi was a member of the HSE working group that drafted the 2007 CDM Regulations. He is currently on the HSE working group evaluating CDM 2007. Last year he wrote a report that was submitted to the HSE on the industry's experience of working with CDM 2007 which made a number of recommendations for improving the Regulations.
He was nominated as construction personality of the year in the 2004 Building Awards. He was listed in Contract Journal's construction industry top 30 "power players" in 2006, 2007 and again, in 2008.
He is a visiting Professor of construction law at the Universities of Wolverhampton and Northumbria.

 

Brian Moone, Operations Director, Mace
Brian is Director of Mace Supply Chain Management and Development which incorporates the award winning Mace Business School. Before joining Mace he was the Chief Executive of Construction Best Practice and a Board Director of Rethinking Construction and more recently a Director within Constructing Excellence. He was responsible for leading the industry change agenda set out by Sir John Egan.

 

Bill Munn, Best Practice Director, Thomas Vale 
Bill Munn is Best Practice Director for Midland's stalwart Thomas Vale Construction. He joined the business in 1988 as Safety Manager/Training Manager and was appointed Best Practice Director in 2001.
Bill visited America (Detroit) to observe Construction Best Practice as part of City Regeneration Programme and observed 'Lean' construction first hand and most recently visited Toronto as part of UK delegation in partnership with the BERR to visit world class organisations operating 'Lean' manufacturing processes.
He has played a critical role in the business implementation of innovation and sustainable building/business techniques. In early 2008, Bill was given additional responsibility of the Human Resources Strategy & compliance and this role now encompasses all group responsibilities for Health & Safety, Quality, Training & Development, and Recruitment & Employment Legislation.
In 2010 Thomas Vale Construction swept the boards at the Construction News Quality Awards and have been named the Judge's Supreme Contractor of the Year 3 times in 10 years, alongside winning awards for their commitment and excellence in Sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility, Training and Development and Project Specific Awards - meaning he is well placed to deliver a constructive overview of businesses entering the Specialist Awards.
Alasdair Thompson, Business Development Director, Franklin Andrews 
Alasdair Thompson is the Business Development Director for Project, Programme and Commercial Management at Mott MacDonald. He has board level responsibility for all business development activities along with the strategic development of the business. Alasdair trained as a quantity surveyor and joined Franklin + Andrews in 1994. In 2002 Franklin + Andrews became part of the Mott MacDonald Group. Prior to his current role, Alasdair ran the Western Business Unit, taking responsibility for offices in Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter.
Alasdair also undertook an MBA in Leadership at Exeter University in 2004.

 

Alan Crane, CBE Charirman, 3C's Consultants
 
Kevin Fear, Head of Health & Safety Strategy, Construction Skills
Kevin Fear has worked in the construction industry for over 30 years. He is a Chartered Civil Engineer and has worked for clients, contractors and consultants. He is the Head of Health, Safety and Environment Strategy at ConstructionSkills. He is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Highways and Transportation and he is a Chartered Member of Institution of Occupational Safety & Health.
During 2005, Kevin assisted the HSE to give an industry perspective during the CDM Regulations 07 consultation period. This work has since been regarded by the Health and Safety Commission as one of the most effective consultation events held by the HSE. In May 2006 Kevin was asked by CONIAC to Chair an Industry Working Group to produce the CDM Guidance Documents, a role for which he was nominated for the 'Outstanding Contribution to Safety Award' at Building Magazine's 2007 Health & Safety awards.
He is an active member of HS&E committees and other industry groups including the Construction Industry Advisory Council (CONIAC), this is the statutory committee through which the HSE advise and consult with industry. In May 2006 Kevin was asked by CONIAC to Chair an Industry Working Group to produce the CDM Guidance Documents. He is currently a member of the three CONIAC working groups; Health Risk Management, Safety and CDM Regulation Review.
Ken Orbell, Managing Director, McCaffery 
Ken has been working in civil engineering and construction management for over 30 years on some of the largest projects in Europe and throughout this period has covered a wide range of projects both in and out of the UK including, oil refinery, nuclear, mainline and light rail, telecoms, bridges, roads, utilities and marine. He has gained particular skills in design and build, value engineering, programming, problem solving, project recovery and logistics. 
Andrew Osborne MA (Oxon) ACA - Deputy Chairman
Andrew represents the Osborne family and leads the promotion of Osborne to both clients and the industry. Andrew's role includes corporate responsibility and sustainability and ensuring that Osborne's values are upheld at all times. Andrew is a chartered accountant as well as having a degree in Engineering Science and
was our Group Finance Director between 2000 and 2005. He has been a Non-Executive Director of Charter International plc since 2005 and is a Trustee of WellChild, a charity that provides care and support for children dealing with serious illnesses.

Stef Stefanou, Chairman, John Doyle  
 Born in Egypt of Greek origin, Stef started working life with Peter Lind, Fairweather and Holst (now Vinci) before joining John Doyle in 1972, initially as Construction Manager before becoming Managing Director in 1975. As principal shareholder since 1976 he developed the business to its current form over a 30 year period and following the MBO now holds a 22% stake in the business.
Stef Stefanou born in 1941, graduated from London University in 1966, he now lives in Leeds with his wife Debbie, son Michael and step-daughter Natalie but is based in Old Hatfield during the week.
Stef maintains a high profile within the industry via his involvement in a number of industry related bodies including Construct (after 12 years on the Chair 1993-2005), Board member of SpeCC the registration scheme, Chairman of Constructionarium and Member of the ConstructionSkills Network Observatory for Yorkshire and Humber Areas. He was also founder board member of the Movement for Innovation (a Government body), Membership of the Council of the "Concrete Society".
In 2004 he was made a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers; 2005, the Dundee International Congress, awarded him the Concrete sector Gold Medal; 2007 he was given the OBE for his services to the Construction Industry; and also an Honorary Doctorate by University of Westminster.
In 2011 Stef is made a Fellowship of the City & Guilds of London Institute for the outstanding contribution to construction industry and to the advancement of engineering excellence.

Paul Hodgkinson, Simons Group 
Paul Joyner, Director of Sustainability, Travis Perkins Group
  Builders' Merchant, Travis Perkins, appointed Paul Joyner as its Group Director of Sustainability in March 2011. The role was created for Joyner to strengthen the company's focus on its commercial credentials in sustainable building solutions.

Joyner brings with him a wealth of directorship and consultancy experience to Travis Perkins, including many years within the retail and business to business sectors. His CV ranges from management roles at Halfords and Do It All to founding his own retail consultancy business. Paul has also set up and run a sustainable and eco friendly product website.

Paul graduated with a BA (Hons) in Law from Middlesex University. He lives in Coventry with his wife, a garden designer, and their four sons.
